Feature · the core mechanic

One key down.
Clean text out.

Hold Right Option, talk the way you actually talk (filler, pauses, changed minds) and let go. What lands at your cursor is the sentence you meant, tidied by models that never leave your Mac.

The mechanics

Built for how people actually speak.

Hold

Any key you like

Right Option is the default. Fn/Globe, F19 or any recorded shortcut works too. A small pill shows up near your cursor and never steals focus from the field you’re typing into. It stays when you close the Velora window; hide it from its right-click menu or the menubar’s Show Pill checkbox.

Talk

Ramble freely

Say “um,” pause, change your mind halfway through. Velora drops the filler, applies your self-corrections (“three, actually make that three thirty” becomes “3:30”) and keeps your meaning intact.

Release

Pasted, and kept

Cleanup runs on your Mac and the result is pasted at your cursor. It’s on your clipboard too, so if the app refuses an automatic paste, ⌘V finishes the job.

Honest capture

Ready means ready

Recording only counts as started once real audio is flowing. Velora waits for the first converted audio buffer instead of trusting the session flag, so a flaky Bluetooth mic fails loudly instead of recording silence.

Your music survives

Playback pauses itself

Velora pauses supported players like Apple Music and Spotify when dictation starts and resumes only what it paused, so your AirPods don’t drop into crunchy call-quality audio mid-song. Browser video is excluded from automatic pause and resume.

Structure, spoken

Say the list, get the list

“First… second… third…” becomes a numbered list. A topic shift becomes a paragraph. You never say “comma” or “new line,” and you never need to.

The fine print

  • Velora needs microphone, accessibility and input-monitoring permissions; macOS asks on first launch.
  • Models download once during setup (the default speech model is 1.6 GB); after that, dictation is local.
  • Cleanup is a model, and models can be wrong. Every dictation keeps its raw transcript in History so the original is never lost.
  • Requires an Apple Silicon Mac on macOS 14 or later.
