Velora vs
Wispr Flow.

Wispr Flow is probably the most polished dictation product on the market. This comparison isn’t about polish. It’s about architecture: every Wispr Flow dictation is processed on their servers, and every Velora dictation is processed on your Mac.

The core difference

Their words, not ours.

“Transcription always occurs on the cloud. This is the best way for us to provide accurate, low latency transcription.”

— Wispr Flow’s data-controls page, checked September 2026

That is a legitimate engineering choice, and it means your audio, your transcripts and context from the app you’re typing in travel to their servers on every dictation. Privacy mode reduces retention and opts out of model training; it doesn’t change where the processing happens. Velora’s answer is structural: the models live on your disk, so there is nowhere to send your voice.

Head to head

Where each one wins.

Choose Velora if you want

  • Dictation that works in airplane mode; audio and transcripts never leave your Mac.
  • Free forever: no $12–15 a month, no 2,000-words-a-week meter on the free tier.
  • No account, no sign-in, nothing to be breached upstream.
  • Open source you can read, build and verify, MIT-licensed.
  • Local extras no cloud tool matches: consent-first meeting notes, Voice Edit, and Action Mode driving real apps.
  • Sensitive work (legal, medical, unreleased code) where “processed on our servers” is a non-starter regardless of policy.

Choose Wispr Flow if you need

  • Windows, iPhone, or Android — Velora is Mac-only (Apple Silicon), full stop.
  • A managed team rollout: SSO, admin controls, SOC 2 Type II, HIPAA agreements.
  • Zero local compute: their cloud does the work, so an older or busy machine stays free.
  • Their cross-device consistency — the same tool on your phone and your laptop.

Pricing checked September 2026: Wispr Flow Pro is $12/user/month billed annually or $15 monthly; the free tier allows about 2,000 words/week on desktop. Velora is free.
