Every voice tool,
one honest table.

Five ways to talk to your Mac, compared on the things that actually differ: where your audio goes, what polish costs, and whether you can check any of it. Including what each tool does better than Velora.

“In their cloud, always” is Wispr Flow’s own wording — their data-controls page states “transcription always occurs on the cloud.” Something wrong or outdated here? Open an issue and it gets fixed.

Credit where due

What the others do better.

A comparison you can trust has to cut both ways. If your needs match these, use the other tool. Genuinely.

Wispr Flow

Reach and team polish

Native apps on Mac, Windows, iPhone and Android, enterprise compliance (SOC 2, HIPAA-ready) and very polished onboarding. If you need dictation on Windows or a managed team rollout, Velora doesn’t do that.

Superwhisper

Depth of configuration

A longer track record, a bigger model catalogue, per-mode shortcuts and paste policies, deep links, and iOS, Android and Windows apps. If you love tuning, there are more dials there today.

FluidVoice

Hacker energy

Open source like Velora, with a wider choice of speech engines (Parakeet, Nemotron, Apple Speech, Whisper) and a Command Mode that launches apps, runs shortcuts and triggers system actions by voice. Velora keeps its actions to a closed set of primitives on purpose.

Apple Dictation

Zero setup

It’s already on your Mac and works offline for supported languages. If you dictate a sentence a week and don’t mind tidying it yourself, you may not need anything else.

Deep dives

The two comparisons people ask for.

Free. Open source. Local.

Already using Velora? A star is how the next Mac user finds it.
